In my case, it greatly affected me at the beginning of my poker career, as I wanted to play all the time. Over time, I learned to choose tournament times that didn't conflict with my work schedule.

It's all a matter of organization; find times when you'll be comfortable playing without disrupting your routine.

When I started in 2003, my fascination with online poker actually had an impact on my professional life. Things were different, not always rosy. Over time, things began to normalize, so for many years now, I've had a well-organized relationship. Professional work should always come first, unless you play poker professionally.

Those who manage to balance it have very strict routines. Combining poker and work can increase fatigue. It can affect sleep, mood, and personal relationships. The instability of poker adds to work-related demands.

Although the game can develop logical reasoning and thinking which are qualities needed in my work, it has no place during work time. Poker belongs in leisure time and only when it does not affect sleep or the next day's work efficiency. I must be able to do my job responsibly and be fresh during the work day. So even am poker addict, poker must not affect work or sleep, that is my limit. :)

For me, poker only works when it has clear boundaries. I enjoy the strategic side of the game, but if it starts to interfere with work, sleep, or focus, then it becomes a problem. Like many have said, organization and discipline are everything. Work responsibilities always come first, and poker should stay in its place as a hobby or planned activity, not something that creates stress or fatigue. When the balance is right, both poker and work can coexist without issues.

As for me, it fits in perfectly. When I started playing poker I used to play all day everyday and I would usually blow my bankroll, but now I've learned to balance it with my work, I only play good MTT's not like at first when I used to play everything just because I was bored

I went through the same phase early on—I wanted to play nonstop and it definitely hurt my balance and focus. Over time, I learned that selecting the right tournaments matters as much as playing them. Now I only register for events that fit cleanly around my work schedule, so I can play without rushing or distraction. Since then, my results and enjoyment of the game have both improved a lot.

I'm currently working remotely, so I can work and play games. But if I go back to in-person work, it will be impossible to play games at work.

I have found poker a struggle with work. The biggest issue is a lot of the big games are on a Sunday night running into early Monday morning. These are more designed for pro's time wise. Before some of these were split into two days they also ran into the working day the next often finishing when I needed to start work. If I have work on the Monday and play these I have to go to work with hardly any sleep which outs a strain on your whole system.

I never let poker take up time meant for rest or professional obligations. In my weekly schedule, I list my fixed commitments (work, family, sleep) and only then do I reserve specific times for poker.

At the beginning, poker could easily spill over into my work life not by playing during work hours, but mentally. hands, bad beats, and “what if” scenarios were always in my head.
Nowadays I handle it much more consciously. Work always comes first, and poker only fits in if it doesn’t affect focus, sleep, or performance.
On the positive side, poker improved my decision-making, patience, and self-control. On the negative side, without clear boundaries it can become mentally exhausting. Setting limits was the key for me.

I don't play poker while I'm working; I try to play in the afternoon or evening in my free time.

Poker doesn't affect my work in any way, because I only play on weekends. I can't juggle work and poker, I guess I'm too old for that. After work, the only thing I can do is lie on the couch and watch my favorite TV shows.

At first it affected me, because I wanted to play every tournament, and at last I understood how to schedule my work schedule, so I could play without pressure.

I essentially have a flexible work schedule. I work when I deem it necessary. Nevertheless, I have taken the opposite approach and work during the hours when my favorite tournaments are not scheduled.
