But, in all seriousness, I am just a recreational player.  I totally understand, if you are a Pro Poker Player, or just aspiring to be one... the stakes are just so high, and the variance can be so high, just ONE BAD BEAT, can make an enormous difference!

I think that is where Bankroll Management comes in.  If you are trying to jump levels by taking too much risk versus earning your way up the ladder to bigger stakes, I can easily imagine this scenario presenting itself.  Logic says, proper bankroll management significantly reduces the likelihood of this occurring.  If your skills are good enough, you are likely to win over the long-term and be able to work your way up in stakes.  If you buy into a tournament which is too high for your bankroll, you are taking a BIG GAMBLE, and the outcome is the outcome, good or bad.
