I would say its going to take at least 10-15 years before you become a decent player, or 15000 hours of playing to be an expert. Just remember there are so many variables in every hand of poker. However, if you can make it to a final table or 2 it will give you some valuable insight, but generally those players arent experienced enough to show you any real good things anyways. Just remember you should have some innate ability or skill at poker that makes this the right path for you, or makes you a good player. Whether that be your math skill, your patience, your creativeness, or ability to read people, everyone has some different ability thats strong with them. Research all the variables of hands you can think of, these include: Position, Pot sizing, Bet sizing, Fold Equity, % to win hand, Pot odds, Implied odds, and basic classification of players at the table.
