I started when I stopped at a casino in Oklahoma.
I played and won at a game called Ultimate Holdem which is heavily favored for the house.  I played another time and lost my butt.  I liked the poker part of the game so I made my way to the poker room.  I played and lost again but had a blast.
 
Then I was working a security job at a truck stop (to help pay for my son's competitive baseball)  and I saw a guy in the cab of his truck playing on Party Poker.  He told me about online poker and that is when I really started to play for lower stakes.
 
Shortly after that Party Poker left the USA and I changed to Poker Stars.  I lost a lot.  Reloaded and Reloaded.  I got enough points for a Poker Stars sweat shirt though.  It was the most expensive sweat shirt ever.  I think it cost me $1200.
That is when I started reading and managing my bankroll.  I was able to cash out several times.  Just as I was getting consistently good and profitable then Black Sunday came.
I miss the good ole days.  I am not thrilled with any of the choices for USA players today so I mostly play 1-2 NL and 4-8 Limit at the casinos in Oklahoma.
