I'm not saying you're suggesting this > (but have heard MANY members on here state this who are playing in the CC freerolls).... they know they'd be competitive playing HSMTT's but they just don't want to invest that kind of money into it.  It is dillusional and is the type of thinking the ones who are making a living at the game love to hear.

My answer for OP,  
I would say pre-2011, if you put in the time to study away from the tables (& by study I mean studying effectively) and were really dedicated and willing to work hard, YES you could make a living playing poker (online).
These days, the reality is that it is much much harder.  When you open a table of a high buyin MTT when it's deeper into the game, there might be one whale on the table.. maybe.  Even in low stakes the tables are filled with players who have LOTS of experience!  Sure you'll find some really bad players in there too, but they are much fewer than in the past.  Weekends are by far your best chance as the fields are much softer than on the weekdays.  But will you make a living at it?  Not likely imo.  You might become a winning player but you'l need to be grinding it out to make 1/2 of what you'd make from typical minimum wage job.
