Was it the right decision, please advise.

Dear fellow poker players, Im not new to poker, but mainly played cash and Ive been working really hard on my tournament game this year, I played yesturday in a tourney was chip lead the whole way thru on final table I got involved in one of "those hands" and I would love some advice as to whether I played it correctly, thanks J x

You really need to give us A LOT more information than that. If you can find the hand history and put up any reads on the villian(s), post that and I'm sure we would be happy to help.

welcome aboard Jet777. Without a description of the hand and how it was played (a hand history as eric said would be ideal) no one can offer any opinions .Just remember, sometimes you can do everything right and still lose.

Im on the button with AK clubs. I have 27k chips the blinds are 800, 1600, action is under the gun limps, seat 4 calls, rest fold. I raise to 4800. Player 4 passes, under the gun calls (I have not palyed this player before, this is FT and my 1st involvement with him)
Flop is 8c, 5h, 3c, under the gun pushes all in for 17k, I detect weakness in his bet (he obviously does not want me to call) I think he maybe hit or had a low pair if anything atall. I don't put him on a set because of his over bet. Decision time is - do I risk 17k (leaves me 10k to still play, I'm 7th at this point, still chip lead) on a draw, 2 overs, so I call based on the bet he made (overbet = weak) and the pot value. He turns over A5, he made pair of 5's, turn and river don't help me, he wins. Q is tho was my play correct, or should I have passed it? Cheers, Jet x

This is such an easy call. He'll have a lower flush draw a lot of the time as well.

Also though you have about 20% of your stack in preflop and a hand that is likely the best hand or at least close to 50-50. You're getting insane odds, you have to call here. That said I'd also raise a bit more preflop. With the limper I'd make it like 5500ish.

well at least you should know why he pushed. He probably put you on what you had thinking "well, all I can lose to is a king". he assumed he was good at the time and as you suspected, he didn't want you to call. He wanted to take it down right then and push you out. I say let em have it. You shouldn't have called imo. Thats pretty tight, but live to fight strong (and not so crippled) another hand. A higher preflop raise was definitely in order but at the same time, when you're at the final table people think any ace is good. At least the ones I've played.

Other than raising more pf (I can't say that I would necessarily - If I had as many chips as you had I'd want action so I doubt I would have raised it more than 3x) you played the hand fine. I would have called and been happy about it.

I am not sure I would have called in this spot. I do agree he doesnt want a call but for me I would need a little than the Nut Flush draw to call here. I mean while you are getting good odds to call the question is how many outs do you have? if you dont call you still have about 22000 chips left and are still in a really good spot, but by calling you put yourself in the pack and worse.

For me its a laydown.
