After a devastating losing “2007” year playing online poker, ending with a negative 24k, I started the first month of “2008” with not playing any online poker at all. I played just at the local clubs, and didn’t play at any B&M casinos. When at the local clubs just played tournaments with buy-ins between $130.00 and $300.00. Before and after tournaments usually spent an average of about 3 hours at cash games, 2/4 & 5/10 nl, going a total of 9 times for the month, about twice a week. Had a total net profit of $1623.00 dollars for the first month of “2008”. After having a very successful online poker experience for years at Party Poker, until the UIGEA was passed and then forced to play predominately at Poker Stars for “2007” I decided to pull the plug on online poker so far for “2008”. Really miss playing and having a shot at the big purse tourneys online, but was so disgusted with Poker Stars through out “2007” and just not able to overcome the negative variance. No doubt after the UIGEA was passed most of the U.S. players packed into Poker Stars like myself, with the ease and security of getting money too and from the site with no problems. Yes, I agree that many good players found their way there, but I also feel that it got overloaded with the bad and the ugly players. I know everyone is going to pile into this thread and explain how happy we should be since that’s who you should make your money from. But, I believe the negative variance was brought to an unreasonable high percentage. With that being said, most of the theories on time and percentages to overcome negative variances should be re-written.
