According to his Hendon Mob profile, he'd never entered an event for more than $1K before the Main Event, he'd never won a tournament, and he's only cashed in one tournament since.
 
If he's not playing in anything, then there's no opportunity to give him coverage.  In this year's WSOP he played a couple of the opening events and was out within a couple of hours.
 
The Main Event is, as far as I know, about the only televised tournament where they actually start coverage from day 1.  Most tournamnents only show the final table and even those that do show back footage (Aussie Millions, EPT) don't start filming until at least day 2.
 
I suppose there are freebies like Poker After Dark or the Heads Up Championship where you don't need to play well to get on TV, you just need to accept the invite.  As someone mentioned above, he accepted the Heads Up invite, he just didn't do anything exciting.
 
Long story short?  Tournament poker players need to keep doing noteworthy things to get on TV.  At the very least they need to actually turn up once in a while.
