I think you would be doing the right thing for yourself to give poker up completely (especially if the problem is as extreme as you say), but as for it being banned online, I think combuboom is 100% correct. There are so many potentially addictive things in life, it's up to the individual to (hopefully) recognize when they have the problem (which you have done), and seek help accordingly.
 
I think for you, the best thing you can do is contact [URL="http://www.gamblersanonymous.org/"]Gamblers Anonymous[/URL]. It would be a great way to get support, and be able to sound off with other people who have the same problem. Sometimes it helps to hear other's stories and experiences to help yourself on the path to recovery. I wish you all the best and hope that you won't be too hard on yourself. Like I said, just being able to admit you have a problem is a GIANT step in the right direction.
