One of the benefits of raising is taking a harder look at your hole cards and asking yourself if they are worth raising with? If the answer is no then there's a very good chance they are not worth playing at all. The statistical chances of hitting a favourable flop are often so remote that your just throwing your chips away. 
Having said that, knowledge about how your opponent(s) play can be vital. Also imdo, learning to feign weakness is a key component to drawing other players in. If you raise everytime your ahead only then you'll soon lose a lot of action.
