Lock stock and two smoking barrels

Could someone please explain to me everything you can about this scene. I was watching the film last night and I do not understand any of it.

They are playing 3 card brag, which I googled it but didn't pick up much that would help me. Rules for the game on the film are iirc an open cant see a blind.


Anyway, why does he need 500k to "see" the bad guy? and why the **** doesn't he just turn his cards over? Why does he borrow the money. He also says he needs 150 to continue so why does he end up owning 500k?

Also could someone explain the hand ranking, does the young guy have a good hand and is just beaten by an even better one?

He owes 500K cause the villain bet 500K. (He initially said 250, but then changed his mind. Its a British gangster film, so this shit can happen...lol.)

Great film BTW. Watch the whole thing if you can.

When there are only two players left in the game, all the others having folded, a third option becomes available. Either player can see the other. Seeing costs twice as much as the previous player's bet.
