It's definitely a case of getting what you pay for, as Camtasia is head & shoulders above everyone else in the screen recording industry, but there are cheaper and free options that are often good enough for most people.

[url=]AutoScreenRecorder Free[/url] is by the same people who do ScreenHunter, which is a screen capture software popular with some other CC'ers.  It looks like you need to upgrade to the Pro version for $50 to record audio, however, according to the version comparison chart.  Of course you could always post-edit and add your voice commentary using other software too.
