Well said. While I do think tracking win/loss and profit data is crucial for the long term, I definitely agree that studying and analyzing hands is equally important. Obviously if you're playing live poker it's a bit harder than online to get all your hands for review so it's a different beast. I wondered if this player played online at all, I've found I do better live than online BUT online now has become a better tool for improving my game in all environments and seeing a lot more hands (and being able to database them if needed for later review) definitely helps with game theory, strategy, math, and overall competency in one's play.

I'm going to work on taking notes more after my live sessions too (maybe using note feature in the app I use and/or a small notebook) just to get an even better feel of my mood, mindset, plays, etc. One thing I do like to do after a session is go over questionable hands (won or lost) in my mind and analyze my play (and also through posting hands here sometimes). I try to run through the hands over and over, study strategy on these spots, study odds, texture reading, etc on these hands.

I agree that people like this person probably vastly overestimate their ability. And if they aren't tracking or even studying a little bit than they're likely not nearly as good as they think they are.
