I can remember when 24K/yr (or its equivalent back then) seemed like a lot, but it's been nearly 20 years since I made that little myself, so it's all a matter of perspective -- I'd be hating life if I took that much of a pay cut now. Analogous to closet and hard drive space, lifestyles tend to grow to fill available income capacity. So there's no way I'd be able to play poker for a living for a "measly" $4000/month.
