missing flopster

i have looked over my notes for the last week and noticed a trend.

when playing shorthand max 6 tables i have been making the comment that i have been missing flops. digging a little further shows two good examples. i played 260 hands, saw 95 flops and won 12 hands. 247 hands, 101 flops and 14 wins.

i seem to remember thinking "how can miss every flop"

is this just a bad run or is there some hole in my game?

A hole in your game.. what cards are you playing while being patient?

Would need more info than just that to check for leaks, especially short handed, 6 or less.

Short handed you open up your starting card requirements and that can lead to a cold streak of flops. You can play decent hands and keep getting hit with overcards etc.

As far as leaks or holes, you may be over estimating opponents strengths and folding hands that you were actually ahead. Missing a flop does not mean you are automatically behind in the hand. Shorthanded play can go to the aggressor as much as catching cards.

Either a bad run, or you're getting bluffed out of a lot of pots. You should have the best cards, on average, about 15% of the time (whereas you've won only 5% of the hands). Do you suspect you get bluffed out of many pots? Otherwise, I'd qualify this as variance, and keep playing.

If you want to plug leaks, post some hand histories (tip: use http://www.zerodivide.cx/converter/ and choose Format: "Bet the Pot" and it will look very pretty and be easy to read!). Pick hands where you feel that you might have gone the wrong way, some way or other. It's a great way to learn new things.

i was thinking the same thing about the 15%. it just seems like every flop is not only missing but screaming flush or has two overcards.

This isn't going to change how well you hit your flop, but looks like you need to practise your aggressiveness. A-10 at a six-max table is a clear raise preflop. Same for A-7, if you're going to play it from an early position. I'd raise the 8-8 too.

This will not affect how often you hit your flops, but it will affect how many OTHERS get a chance to hit their flops. By raising, you might make someone holding K4o fold, and therefore not hit his pair of kings. I'd consider being more aggressive and, while you're at it, tighten up just a notch and let go of some of the more troublesome hands (such as A7o in early position).

Three hands, and not a single preflop raise. Is that possible at $1/$2 table? This is the problem. Like Fredrick said, A7 is not the best hand to play from EP, but it's not hopeless either, especially at a table of calling stations. I don't blame you for checking off the flops with so many others involved. But you wouldn't have this problem if you thinned the heard preflop. Your certainly seeing alot of flops 36% and 40% by the numbers. Be more selective and raise 3-4xbb. I consider the preflop raise as the best buy in the game. Cheap and powerfull.
As pokerfan pointed out, don't make it a habbit togive up when you miss the flop. As a general guideline, if you led out, then you should take a stab at the pot, out of position against 1 opponent, and in position against 2.
Try this for a couple of days and, if you wouldn't mind, I'd be interested to see if those stats you posted have changed.
