Mistaken the PLO for PLO Hi/Lo?

Have you ever played PLO, but thought you were playing PLO HI/LO. Well, I just recently had that experiance. I could just not figure out why I was not winning the Lo side pots when I would clearly have the winning hand. Needless to say, my bankroll went down to zero before I noticed that it was just PLO. Well, this is a lesson learned, hopefully it won't happen again. Please let me know if you have suffered the same fate at some time in your poker.

if the topic is about "mixing something up in poker" I didn't have that, but somehow I walked away from the table, then when I came back I saw from afar that I had A A and time was running out, I made a call all in and was very happy when I saw him with A K, but what that went wrong.. I had A 4

This already happened to me, but the opposite. I was playing PLO H/L thinking I was in a PLO table. I was playing several tables at the same time so I didn't noticed my mistake until I saw that a pot that I should have won being divided with another player.

It seems to me that when you switch to PLO, you will have to adapt again and use completely different strategies. I'd rather improve my game in only one variation of the game.

This is normal when playing PLO8, the best low pot hand is A-5, remember that I play Omaha the hand consists of 3 cards from the table and 2 of your cards, so to have a good playing hand in PLO8, use sequential aces and low cards, thinking about the HI game, use the normal PLO strategy

Haha, this is a great story. Luckily this did not happen to me yet but it is very easy to mix similar games up.

That sounds crazy man! I recently played regular PLO for the first time, because I didn't even knew what is happening there 😅(btw I really loved it). And what is Hi/Lo in PLO is another big question for me now😅

Inattention sometimes happens to everyone. I've seen several times in the game Badugi how players put their hands together incorrectly, or Razz put together combinations like in the Stud.

Yes, this is a fairly common mistake, maybe you still played a lot of tables

I wouldn't suggest playing that way, especially PLO 8 where you could put in a lot of chips in the middle with aggressive players before seeing a flop and then have to bail if the board is all high or you'll get quartered if you tie for the low pot. Between those two things there is also having to worry about your low cards getting counterfeited with an A or 2 or 3 on the board that also makes it harder to win consistently, but whatever.

Has it happened to me? I would be lying if I said no but you can screen your tables to only display one of the hi/lo games whether cash or tourns on most sites so you only see the type of game you prefer playing instead of making that mistake. I'd suggest you do that before you start any session and not make a one time adjust your game/table favorites.

Something else you can do is either write down the table limits and game or tourn info and verifying the info when starting your session and write some notes about your session to avoid being at the wrong table as well.
