Do you like sitting at a table full of shortstacks? Then play cap. Anyway, just got back from WV game, $50 tourney I'm around starting stack but blinds are up to the point where I have about 30 BBs. CO opens for 3x I'm in BB I ship it in with 99 guy tanks forever. At this point I figure I'm ahead and he's got like a lower pair, possibly a flip like AT, or maybe even just like A3 so I'm actually hoping for a call. He literally takes about 3-4 minutes and finally puts the chips in and makes the call. His hand? Pocket kings. Really? I figure I shoulda hit a 9 just because of karma but alas karma didn't agree with me. I was left with less than a BB and busted out next hand. But then I go to the cash table, 50nl but people actually buy-in normal/deep as opposed to most live games. I know live 6x is a common raise but here one guy open raised to $12 once, more common was like $5-7 for him. Anyway same guy straddles for $5, his left folds, I'm next to act and look down at AKo, I make it 17. Not only do 3 people call, a 4th shoves over the top for another $8 so betting is not re-opened and the original raiser calls, I can only call not shove, and everyone else calls. Flop is low paired I believe like 866 2 clubs, straddler checks I shove and everyone calls. Turn is blank club, river is Kc. I'm not sure I saw everyone's hand but in what I think was a 6-way all-in not one had a club or set and my TPTK held up as the best hand to win a huge pot. Bit later on same guy same situation basically on this time instead of AK I have AA and only 1 call then straddler calls. Flop comes Axx I figure I don't get 3 streets from anything worse other than sets which get all money in regardless so I check back. Turn is another A to give me quads, ch/ch I bet like half pot and guy who called from the blinds makes it like 4x giving us each about pot bet left if I call. So I think of the hands he can have, figure sets and air basically, figure getting money from set on river regardless and this guy was aggro enough to try to continue on the river so I just flat. He checks, I jam, he claims to have folded a set (talking about Ax for boats better than his) but pretty sure he was just full of shit. Either way nice pot. Basically just played value-based game aside from the few people who knew how to fold, although I made a mistake thinking there was a guy who would fold in another hand: straddle to 2, re-straddle to 6, I re-straddle to 12. 2 callers, I have QTs almost raise but I figure I have no FE and this is a good hand to see a flop multi-way. Flop=KQx guy leads into me other guy folds I call. Turn's a blank ch/ch, river's A he checks nervously and it's so obvious he doesn't like the A. Now I have showdown value but I figure bluffing is worth it to get him off his kings and obviously I still win the hands I would have before. But obviously he doesn't fold his K9 for a $45 river bet and just to show that he made such a great read that I was on a bluff he asked "what were you betting on???" I almost said something like "well if you're surprised you won when you called, why'd you call?" but instead just said "betting you'd fold, nice call", lol. Some other hands, C/R bluffed WVH with an over and a gutter but he only had AK for overs anyway but there was some dead money from another guy in between us who also folded to my raise. Anyway ended up cashing out for about $350 from my initial $60 buy-in so did alright even after the -55 in the tourney. Had fun, gonna sleep now, Nationals game tomorrow, then like I said gonna do some April review.
