More or Less

ok so when your playing in a tournament, lets say the daily dollar, whereas you start out with 3000 chips. is it better to play more hands with the blinds so low? or is it better to wait for your premium starting hands? same goes for 2.20 tourneys. which is more likely to get you to stack up quicker IYO.

I am a firm believer in tight game in the beginning of tournaments. Play tight at the start, but play hands that can turn huge like suited connectors and all pairs. Also I like to play a lot of AXs and unsuited connectors.

I do at times mix it up, but not much. Especially if people are playing super tight then you can play wider, but if there are 5 people in the pot play the hands I outlined earlier.

I let my table dictate my strategy, so in all honesty there is no real answer to your question.

Where circumstances permit, I like to see a lot of flops. but there is no point in getting wedded to that approach if you are at an aggressive table and it`s costing you chips.

early play

For me I useually mix it up so until I get the feel for everybody at the table. Play alot of suited cards or even connectors I like to try and limp on alot of marginal hands if the table is playing tight, and play on premium cards if the table is loose. I can usually build a good stack early . But it really has to do with your table and th3e kind of cards you are getting.

Yes I don't mind playing a little loose with a few hands early in a tournament to try and get a little feel for the table. I personally feel I can outplay the average player after the flop, so I agree with your seeing a lot of flops early on. Nothing can replace getting that valuable information early on. As long as you aren't moved from the table in the first 10 min, lol.

just read Phil Gordons Little Blue Book, his strategy is to play tight at beginning of tournaments to assume a "tight image"...which he says allows him to bluff a little more towards the end of tournaments to take down hands. Its hard to argue with someone as succesful as he is.
