Moving to Vegas

I am a student in England who has been fortunate enough to accrue about $200,000 in poker winnings over the past year.

In two years time, when my course finishes, I am hoping to move out to Las Vegas and spend three years as a professional poker player.

I do not have any relatives out there so I am hoping to rent my own apartment. As I am not looking for employment as such, I doubt I will need a workers permit but I am not sure.

Does anyone have any experience in this matter or see any problems that will/may arise from this venture?

Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated as I am pretty clueless. Thanks.

If you keep doing well, you should definately consider moving to Vegas.

In order to move you need to set aside a poker bankroll and living expenses. I would personally try to set aside most of the costs associated with living (like 1-2 years ahead) while still having a decent bankroll to work with.

Also it will be interesting to hear how you have accumulated your bankroll. It is not hard to blow a big bankroll by playing too high in Vegas, so consider the stakes you will be playing. Some of the big professionals are constantly broke, just don't get into many bad habits.

I think it will be wise for you to visit Vegas and scout out the games multiple times before going ahead with the move.

I think your advice is pretty sound. I've got a trip to Vegas this year and have been looking at the cost of renting apartments. I am putting three years rent aside for an apartment, which should be sufficient and leave me with plenty to play with.

I have been playing a variety of poker games. But most of my winnings have come from large texas/omaha tournaments, which I have sattied into. Some of the satellites are really easy. I love re-buy tourney satellites (I never re-buy as a rule) because the prize is always much bigger than the buy-in.

However, I am mainly interested in knowing how hard it will be for me to rent an apartment in another country (my only counter signatures being abroad) without a guaranteed source of income.
