Multiaccounter on Merge

I ran across this somewhat by accident today and had to double check to make sure I was not seeing it wrong. I had hollisterb22smanobv at my table today, and while looking at the entrants(I coulda sworn I had played against him yesterday, but I saw that it was actually hollisterb22 and he was in the same tourney. Obviously, its possible that its a coincidence, but rather odd I thought given the name and that is about the same name..According to sharkscope, both are winning players, but it concerns me that they were both in the same tourney. I plan on reporting this to BCP, but just wondered what others might think.

There is a big thread on 2+2 about them. Supposedly a couple. Merge has investigated and has allowed them both to play.

If this is a MTT, I'm unsure as to what the issue is? It's perfectly fine in every/most poker rooms for couples/friends/family to play in the same MTT as each other, even from the same IP address and computers next to each other.

If this was a cash table/ single table SnG then it's understandable to be concerned.

Why?...

If anything, everyone in the tournament should be even more assured they are not colludiing or doing anything untowards if they openly are using names that are very similar and basically saying "Hey, we know each other we're friends/couples"

..would make no sense to try pull wool over anyones eyes and "cheat" anyone out of anything by using the same names.

Really? I thought you were not allowed to play from the same IP address with 2 accounts at the same tournament.

Hollistyerb22 is a girl and then obviously Hollisterb22manobv is obviously her man. Lot's of married couples play poker.

Yeah you are. Even pokerstars you can play in the same tournament (and they are the most strict when it comes to colluding/cheating) from the same IP address, same room etc so long as the tournament has over 45 entrants.

When my wife used to play poker (Was a novelty thing, she soon got bored) We quite often played in 90man SnG tournaments and MTT's for the added extra "fun" as it did make the whole experience fun. Of course we never cheated if we got moved to the table, it made it more fun to try outwit and play vs each other in a hand from one computer to the other.. ahh

I thought about that, but then I thought, different nicknames would also mean different people.

I was in 2 tournaments the other day and it was Lock's fault not mine. I unregistered from Lock (waited until the button changed from deregister to register) then logged out. I re-registered at BCP - and was on the same table as my Lock id.

I sent them an email asking for a refund but they never gave it to me.

Point is - you never know what is really going on when you see things like this.

Thanks for your response... Really thought it wasn't allowed because, as you mention, it provides the given couple with an opportunity to cheat (Guess the poker room could keep an eye on couples for an obvious cheating situation, but still).

If I had a poker room, I wouldn't allow it.

That kind of stinks. How can you un register and yet still be registered and then, have them say you are not entitled to a refund. I'm sure if you wanted to ask for some sort of log, proving you de-reg they should provide it and then refund you.

If it were more than $2.20 I would raise hell - but obviously they don't believe me and obviously their software failed to remove me from the tournament - but I have no way of proving it and can't be bothered with the headache of dealing with it. I just won't play there anymore after my current balance is used up or built up enough to withdraw.

No problem.

I personally don't see what the problem is. If you had multiple people from the same house/ip doing it then yeah I could understand it to a degree.

However, the odds of being put on the same table in a MTT is low, but to then being left on the same table and hitting the final table etc is even less likely..

I think it's fun to play with someone you know in a MTT, it makes it much more fun.

Just read through the 2+2 thread and it clears things up for me. Worst thing they may doing is sharing hand info/advice IRL but not much that can be done about that.....hate to say this... I realllllly do but...it is what it is...preciate the info

I have no concerns at all about a married couple/bf/gf, etc playing in the same MTT.. my only concern was that it could be a multiaccounter. I know it happens and there may be some issue with one spouse or the other being better and assisting the other, but that would fall outside the realm of what can be dealt with by the site. If not for the names being so similar, I would not have gave it a second thought.

Are you saying you are not playing on Lock or on merge?
