The argument that it is just too easy to tilt away one's bankroll when you are simply clicking on a mouse is one that is often made by opponents of the legalization of online poker such as Sheldon Adelson.  What the opponents fail to mention, however, is that live casinos happily offer free alcoholic beverages to loosen up their patrons, and that it is difficult to find a live poker game with a sub $100 buy-in.  IMO, it is far easier to lose a substantial sum of money playing live.  Online, it is easier to table select and there is a far greater range of stakes to choose from.  If one is prone to tilt, there are many freerolls and micro-stakes games available online; this isn't something that you will find in the live arena.
 
In the final analysis, it is really up to the player to exercise self-control.  There are many players who drop tens of thousands of dollars in a single session at a live casino and I can assure you that you won't find anyone on the casino staff urging them to quit.
