As far as the timing thing goes, IMO it is only a tell if the player is a real fish. I use timing all the time to try to hide my real intention and I think any savvy player will. If I have a good hand I will often take time as if agonizing whether or not to call or to look like I am stealing so I can raise and get called. I bet real quick when bluffing to look like I have a real easy raise here. And as soon as I go to showdown, like when I take a long time as if weak but am strong, the next time I am strong I will bet quick to look weak and so on. I notice this in other players so timing is more of a tool then a tell for me.

I do notice newbies that have certain readable patterns, but better players use timing so I always watch betting patterns and keep notes like:
Checks when weak
Min bets when strong
Good player so good luck with this one   lol
WYSIWYG (what u see is what u get), one of my favorites since so many players bet so obvious, a raise means strength, a check means marginal at best, a fold means...... uhhhhhhhh     ok....:)
