Online tournaments vs. Live

For those who are experianced in live tournaments. Which do u think are easier/harder? Live or Online tournies

Really they both have their positives and negatives. You can't see opponents online, but they can't see you either... and it's pretty easy to remove bet-timing tells if you're disciplined enough to take the same amount of time to check/call/bet/fold for every hand you play.

In live, your opponents can see you, but you can see them as well. This is especially useful if you're very good at schooling your own features and movements while also skilled at reading your opponents, amateurs that are used to online, but try live tournaments are easy pickings for live veterans/pros.

That being said, I would say it depends on the person for what is easier or harder, you should just know that with experience and trials with either, you can become skilled enough that both will be easy.

For me, online is easier because I dont play a lot of live. The few I have played were difficult because I couldnt school my features well enough... although I think I've been getting better based on the small time home games I play.

I couldn't agree more with the points raised by salim271, as both online and live poker tournaments have pros and cons. In addition, here are how, in my opinion, online and live poker tournaments could be differentiated based on the said pros and cons:

online poker Tournaments:
Pros: (1) You can play at the comfort of your own home; and (2) you would not be needing shades, jackets, or blings to try to conceal your emotions and intimidate your opponents.
Cons: (1) You don't get a feel of the excitement that comes with live poker action; (2) you don't get to see real-life emotions; and (3) you don't get the above-mentioned paraphernalia to, well, appear fashionable.

Live Poker Tournaments:
Pros: (1) You get to experience the excitement that comes with playing in a poker tournament live; (2) you get to express your emotions without technology getting in the way; (3) you get to interact with other poker pros and exchange thoughts and perhaps tips with them better; and (4) you get to wear jackets, shades, blings, and whatnots to conceal your emotions and intimidate the other sharks and fishes at the tables.
Cons: (1) You sometimes would have to travel just to attend tournaments; and (2) you'd better be good at controlling your movements and emotions or busting you out would be a piece of cake for your opponent.

There´s more fish live they say. But live poker i don´t like very much. Its too slow, its boring, there are no chipcounts, no long run = no reliable ROI and so on. Live tournament poker is all about luck. Like my mentor Nick Rainey said: "you have to be a real fish to pay live poker" / "live poker players are f jokers, they cant beat the game" LOL. The online players are much stronger, experienced, educated, faster...

To say live poker is all about Luck is the same kind of arguement to say that online poker is rigged. Both are wrong.

both types are pretty fun. However i must say, i find live tournaments more fun and more skill required. Something about seeing your opponents in person makes decision making easier.

live fish at the micro stakes play with 50-100 dollars. online fish at the micros play with 1-2 dollars.

I've never met a solid player at a casino, apart from the two guys who I've been with

Chip counts are just about practice - you can ask for a count at any time, and the more you play the more quickly and accurately you can guess what a person's chip stack is.

Live poker is not about luck because the poor quality of play means you can get it in further ahead, more regularly (relatively) than live poker.

This is, of course, a write up re: something like a tournament in your local casino, and not a reflection on somewhere like a WPT event or Las Vegas

On "Something about seeing your opponents in person makes decision making easier" -- I actually think that having to see your opponent could make decision making a little more tricky since you are allowed to do some "opponent observation." But then again, poker experience is unique to everyone.

Live is harder if you are a low-roller like me. I have had moderate success lately playing cash games at casinos, but only cashed once in a live tourney. I cash frequently in online tourneys, hence the easier of the two for me.

I have only been playing online for a little while and I have played a bit live and I find the two games totally different

the tells are different and you have to concentrate more live on pot sizes and raises and chip counting

I prefer live at the moment hover online is currently giving me my poker fix so who knows it could very well change lol

I would say live poker of any kind beats online poker. You don't get retarded play in live poker like you do online---like 2-8 off suit going all in late in a tourney only to smash AA on the flop. Live games comes with real play that makes sense. Online you have to many plays that make no sense at all---yet they win. Play live--you will enjoy it much more ---and you will win more.

As has been said before both have positives and negatives. Online, I can play in my pajamas at any time of day and find a game within my bankroll.

Live, is usually more expensive but with smaller fields. I have to admit, there is nothing like dragging in a huge pot of chips and stacking them.
