I couldn't agree more with the points raised by salim271, as both online and live poker tournaments have pros and cons. In addition, here are how, in my opinion, online and live poker tournaments could be differentiated based on the said pros and cons:

Online Poker Tournaments:
Pros: (1) You can play at the comfort of your own home; and (2) you would not be needing shades, jackets, or blings to try to conceal your emotions and intimidate your opponents.
Cons: (1) You don't get a feel of the excitement that comes with live poker action; (2) you don't get to see real-life emotions; and (3) you don't get the above-mentioned paraphernalia to, well, appear fashionable. :P

Live Poker Tournaments: 
Pros: (1) You get to experience the excitement that comes with playing in a poker tournament live; (2) you get to express your emotions without technology getting in the way; (3) you get to interact with other poker pros and exchange thoughts and perhaps tips with them better; and (4) you get to wear jackets, shades, blings, and whatnots to conceal your emotions and intimidate the other sharks and fishes at the tables.
Cons: (1) You sometimes would have to travel just to attend tournaments; and (2) you'd better be good at controlling your movements and emotions or busting you out would be a piece of cake for your opponent. :P
