OPR ranking

Some thing i have noticed on opr is the players with more oney and crappy ROI are still ranker pretty well because they have won a little cash.... when u have 250k in prizes and only 23k profit... they are basicly not that good but have high ranking because they have a lot of money... i dont like that, so... my point is the ranking sahuld be based on ROI maybe becuase if u play a billion games u are bound to win somthing... doesnt mean u shuld be in the top 2k ppl on OPR.

It would be much worse if they made the players who only have a high ROI because of one big win highly ranked. If you still show a profit after a large number of games you are more likely to be better than somebody who has 100 games or so and managed to get a big win under their belt, which may, or may not, have just been a ridiculously hot run.

^ ^ ^ this too, but OPR also doesn't track ring play. You're only getting half the picture in many cases.

Since Stars added the VIP status stars to player screen names, I've noticed from time to time there are even Silver and a few Gold VIP players in the dimers and 25centers. What in the world is a Silver VIP player doing in a dimer? tells me as much as OPR, in a way.

OPR is like any tool in the toolchest. It's value is based on how you use it.

I have a friend who doesn't play online very often, but when he does, he usually cashes. So his ROI is like 60% or so. Should he be ranked in the Top 10 then? It goes both ways. And as mentioned earlier, there are useful ways to use sharkscope and OPR Rankings.

Doesnt OPR have three rankings? one for profits, one that;s ROI based and then a third one? Granted it is free info there and has a use of course, but I've gotten every penny's worth fro my bluff pokerdb subscription. That tells me so much more info about oppenents then the OPR. (plus I play on Bodog mostly and it's not on OPR........)

The other problem with those sites is that they dont take into consideration private games also. which is where I and most regular CCer's play alot of games.

ROI or Win Ratio...

I think if they did it with ROI only... they would get a massive field of players... since, there is the average guy that plays one tournament and wins it... and that's it... so his ROI is at 100%...

that's why the Win Ratio comes into play, the more prizes you have won... compared to the profit you have made over time... is a great way to thin out the rest of the players...

this site drives me nuts... seems like every one that loses a hand jumps right on here ...looks you up....and calls you a donk because your roi sucks.... they dont consider your bnm play at all.... i would love to play 80% of ppl who call me a donk live.... i would own another cobra mustang lol....only this time id buy an08 shelby kr..... the 97 svt wont keep up to it lol....

Like has been mentioned, it is a tool, nothing more.

It is all about how u use that tool.

I have a habit of checking out players who push a lot, have big stacks, etc - I play MTT in the main - it helps me and passes the bordem !!!

By checking out players it can tell u a lot.

If they have a massive stack in a rebuy, then u check them out and they have a - ROI, u know where u stand.
If they have a + ROI and u check back to find it is + because of one big win, u know where u stand.
If they have a good ROI from constant cashing, u know where u stand.

The points made about the games it tracks (i.e. not ring games) is a valid point, but not if u want to know how they play in MTT`s.

Agree with all this. It provides data and it's up to you to interpret it.

I often look people up and consider the sample size, the % late and mid-late finishes and then have a look at wins and such.

You will find some people with good ROI who have 1 big win and other than that would be losers, but still have good other stats, you also find those who just got lucky one day.

I always look by "Full tracking"

The rankings are a shorthand way of interpreting the data based on the last 120 days, and by calendar year. They are what they are. They do however take some account of things like buy-in, % ITM, field size etc so aren't just by payout or ROI and decent repeated performance does put you above a lot of the got luckys.
