Playing opponents....vs playing Cards

I realise that both are important, but whats more important? And why?

If you play opponents you can win with poor hands when you have a run of poor cards. Likewise if you can win even more when you have a very good hand if you play your opponent the right way.

Surely if you only play textbook poker then you become predictable and get beaten by better players???....


Hence I think playing the opponent is the more important thing ( albeit with a good foundation of knowledge of when, where and how to play each type of hand in a textbook manner)

Is this accepted generally or are there other points of view?

if you come accross a loose player then you play tight aggressive and vice versa? ( The point is you do not just always play textbook poker )

Not exactly - but you get my point - Surely ?

Depends on how strong of a player your opponent is. You can get away with a lot more "plays" vs a weak opponent.

I think it is the opposite-- you can get away w more plays against a better opponent, because they will actually be thinking about what you might have.
Against a poor/weak/new opponent you are going to to have to show down the best hand, and are thus more dependent on the cards you are dealt.
