What really separates poker from stuff like slots or roulette is that your decisions actually matter. You can play the same hand a hundred times in similar spots and make better or worse choices every time. Over enough volume, the better players just keep winning. That doesn’t happen in real gambling games.

The chess comparison makes sense too, just with a twist. Chess has perfect information and zero luck; poker has hidden information and variance. That doesn’t make poker less strategic — if anything, it makes it harder, because you’re constantly making decisions without knowing all the facts and dealing with people, not just pieces.

So yeah, short term it feels like gambling, long term it’s clearly a skill game. The cards decide today, but the decisions decide where you end up.
