Second, most people who play for a living aren't living the glamorous life throwing around millions at the highest stakes, most are just grinding the game out 40+ hours a week usually multi-tabling at low-medium stakes and earning a decent salary of around 60k or less. Finally, thanks to the poker boom and all the free resources available to everyone on the internet, the average poker player is significantly better at the game than a few years ago, and the average skill level will only continue to increase. This means that pros usually need to put in lots of hours, studying and practicing to optimize their game and stay ahead of their opponents. I think these are the correct expectations to take in if you're looking to make a living off poker, at least at the start when most people are unlikely to afford a bankroll for anything higher than low-medium stakes. Of course, it's always possible you could get lucky and win a huge tournament prize or satelite into a bigger tournament, but you shouldn't rely on this. All this being said, the great thing about playing poker for a living is that you are truly self-employed and there's no real limit to how much you can earn so long as you have the traits required as well as plenty of perseverance and skill. Not to mention, it can be much easier to make a living from poker if you can find a way to make additional income away from the tables, this can mean writing a blog, making Youtube videos, streaming on Twitch, or selling some kind of product like a book or course.
