Poker Business Ideas

Poker business ideas such as building poker tables, custom chips, starting a bar poker league etc...

Erm... yep, they're all business ideas that would've made a lot more money 15 years ago than they would now

As far as building tables or doing custom chips goes there are already a heap of companies that do it, many for crazy-cheap prices. So unless you've already got some idle capacity at a factory in a low-cost country you're gonna find it hard to be competitive.

Not sure what you are asking here, but if you are looking at taking one of these businesses up, I would listen to OzExorcist. As he says, there are a lot of companies already doing this sort of thing, and they are doing it a lot cheaper than you will be able to when starting out.

You could possibly start a league at your local bars if there isn't anything like that in a place where you live and there are enough people that are interested and would join up.

I think unless you are looking at training or leagues, profitability is going to be difficult. Maybe if you run a stable than can be worth the risk if you find good players and have enough to float their buy-ins until they cash.

I have thought about some of these ideas, but they are not cheap to get started.

One thing in life is, you never know until you try! Gl with your decision hopefully it works out. I personally bieleve that starting a bar poker league type in a local area could definitely work out if there's no competition and high demand!

I,m not sure about new poker ideas as a business. Already this is a huge industry and i,m sure it will be really hard to find something new here.
That ideas was good about 10 years ago, when all this was at the beginning. Now for me this is looking just a waste of time.

No money in bar leagues, everyone's solid

Seriously though, the biggest problem with bar leagues isn't just finding people who want to play, it's finding how the hell to make any money off them. I've got some experience in this FWIW, I worked for a bar poker league 10+ years back. Y'know, when poker was actually popular with people other than the hardcore fans of the game. I made bugger all money from it, and I'm pretty sure the company made even less after they paid the dealers their pittance.

I've got no idea where OP (or anyone else in this thread, for that matter) is based, but in the vast majority of places you're not allowed to play poker in a bar for real money - and even if you are, you're not allowed to take a rake.

So you've either got to find some other way for the players to pay you, or you've got to have the venue pay you as some kind of entertainment expense. It's hard to make money in either case because both have much cheaper alternatives available to them (playing in a normal casino, a home game or online, and doing just about anything else from drink specials to theme nights to just being a good bar, respectively).

So yeah - there's probably no money in bar poker.

I want to build a poker table, I wonder if it's hard to build one, what materials I would have to use?

Generally its not a good idea to go around talking about your business ideas in public forums on the internet. Except in this case when the forum would stop you from losing thousands of dollars by overwhelmingly telling you that starting a poker related business in 2017 is a BAD idea.

Sounded a bit sarcastic at first, but actually on reflection could be worth a try.
(Beats going to the library and searching through books).

I would say Wood, Screws, Green Felt, foam padding and leatherette for edge rests. (string netting for pockets if doubling up as snooker/pool and poker multi-table).

Cliff notes, consensus is that it is cheaper to buy than build and just the table top versions are a particularly affordable way to get started.

It is unlikely that a startup table manufacturing business could compete in the existing marketplace when it isn't even worth trying to build one for personal use.
