Poker legend Chris "Jesus" Ferguson once said something like: "Ideally, you shouldn't have more than 1% of your bankroll on the line for any given event". This is easier said than done if one has a lot of money, but I completely agree with where he is coming from.

On a little bankroll of $100, then risking no more than $1 per event (1% as recommended) is possible, but takes discipline and grinding for sure. However, on a bankroll of say a million ($1,000,000), then 1% (10,000) feels like it has "more freedom with it", but this is likely just an illusion and takes a lot of discipline as well.

Variance is a serious thing that can take out even the best players. Variance may not seem too important for someone without much bankroll experience, but I assure you that a life-time of poker (like the careers for these poker professionals) will inevitably face MANY ups and downs and they need to manage bankroll safely to survive those down swings.
