I actually strongly disagree with this ^ statement.    Poker at its lowest levels requires very little mental effort, especially if one already has a lot of experience and is able to easily adjust to others who really aren't thinking much... or much beyond 'level 1' type of thinking.
But as you begin to become more skilled, one finds that there is much MUCH more to this game than initially  thought.  I have had countless times during my poker playing journey where I've stopped and thought to myself "Wow... was I ever a HUGE Fish back then" ... and then again... and again... & again.   It takes A LOT of practice to get good at the game of poker.
