Poker Odds Help

Hey Everyone,
just joined this forum today in hope that someone could help me out with a poker odds question. I understand basic pot odds and implied odds etc. But im currently reading Harrington on Hold Em, and he's talking about chances of certain hands winning. One example he gives is that two higher cards vs two lower cards is about a 5-to-3 favourite. Can someone explain what a 5-to-3 favourite means and what does the pot need to offer me in order to make the call correct. Or am i just overly confusing myself?!
