Poker Psychology: Is 'Instinct' Just Unconscious Math?

Following my previous posts on the psychology of poker, I have been reflecting: is 'poker instinct' really just our brain unconsciously processing mathematics and patterns? Do you believe that our hunches are merely our subconscious performing calculations based on experience, or is there a 'human factor' that numbers cannot capture?
