If at the tables I would be less worried about it because he should know the game he is playing and the caveats that go with it.  If he s a friend that you go to the casino or poker room with, (well he should still know but...)   you can weigh the value of your friendship against his unwillingness to understand that its just part of the game.

BTW I have a friend that no matter where we play, what game we play he seems to always come out ahead.  the thought to take it out on him never crossed my mind.  I don't usually believe in luck or superstition but the dude is sharp, and even when he isn't (or looks like he isn't trying) he seems to hit.

But then all of us used to play poker together and grew up with each other so a solid history - just my thoughts on what you said good luck sounds like he is an important friend to you..
