Poker Stars Rings Harrassment

really ok so u do email them and they get there warning or a chat ban they are still going to abuse there chat again

first offense is 3 hours i think then a week then 2 months

but then what? those 'CHAT ABUSERS' go back on there way doing the same crap that they were doing before

i think what needs to be done is to stop abusive chat before it is displayed at the table {eg if sentence contains words like idiot , curse words etc cant be displayed} that way no one can make a mockery of the chat window

Worst I've seen was someone who kept making horrible racist remarks, and I mean the kind that doesn't even stop at justifying the holocaust. I made screenshots and mailed them to support. They told me the player was warned... I mean, what do people have to do to get banned? They actually let this racist son of a b**** on the tables again.

This was on pacific poker btw.

On topic, I really think there should be hard actions towards people how talk trash on the tables. Also when someone wins a pot where the losing side played foolish, people who give that guy crap should be able to be banned for at least a month, for scaring away the fish and ruining the atmosphere. I mean, why would you scare someone away that plays bad so you can take their money? I really fail to see the logic in that.

I enjoy some players going after each other. I've seen some very witty insults. If it bothers you turn off their chat. Don't rat people out to support like a ten year old girl. Only exceptions I would make would be racist or sexist type abuse. Unfortunatly I've seen plenty of that.

No offense but, these are fools on the internet. Who cares what they say, its not like they know you. Turn the chat off, don't let them get the best of you.

Why do people confuse a poker table with a chat room? If I want to play poker, I go to a poker table. If I want to chat then I go to a chat room!

Okay, in an ideal world it may be nice to do both at the same time, but since when did we live in an ideal world? If you are sufficiently sensitive that moronic comments will offend you, then switch off chat, or block the offender. If you can't live without chat, then quit the poker session and go to a moderated chat room!

If it bothers you juzt turn off the chat. Sometimes I like the comments because it can be comical, and it usually means your winning. And I think it happens more at lowere limit tables.

No one's saying they're getting the best of anyone. People should hold themselves accountable for things they do or say online, just like in "real life". I would know, believe me. A higher standard for ID checks would be a huge starting point. My point, was that there is no mod button for cash money tables, but for some reason, people who basically don't matter to poker companies, because they make them no money, have the option of calling over a mod. Take away the kid's button and give me some rake back from the $ they would be saving on paying someone to mod their tables. Give the button to both or none, but don't "discriminate." ?

Who knows, it might be all about the whole first impression thing, and besides, a lot of new people try the site by playing on the play money tables, so by the time they get to the real money tables, they are so addictied to gambling or site that they dont care.

I see what you are saying and you are right in my opinion. That is an improvement a site like stars could use. However, I'm a big fan of being able to say whatever you want as long as its not discrimination or straight abusive language.

It's fair to say that many of us (myself included) missed the main point of the original post - namely, why is the facility there for play money, but not real money (nothing to do the the rights or wrongs of chat conduct). I don't claim to know the answers, but I'll offer a couple of possibilities.

1) As of 5 minutes ago there were 101,000 active players (according to PS's own figures - I don't know how accurate these are). I had a quick look at the play money tables, and there were approximately 300 of them active - that's a maximum 3,000 players. Obviously, the resourse required to moderate 101,000 is MUCH greater than that required to moderate 3,000

2) This point is only relevant if users that have NOT opened a real money account are NOT allowed to post in real money table chat. I don't think they are allowed to, but I'm not sure. I can register with Poker Stars (or pretty much any other site) with ficticious details. The rights and wrongs of this are debateable (but not relevant to this discussion). I COULD be an 8 year old child that signs up for example - all I need (at most) is a Hotmail account, and most children have them. To get to the real money tables, I need a real money account, and there is therefore some kind of age verification (eg the the use of a credit card to deposit). So, in effect, there IS moderation where there is no age verification (play money) and there ISN'T moderation where there is age verification (real money). I could easily make out a case for this being quite reasonable - even responsible practise. The theory being, an adult should have the sense / ability / judgement to know when to switch off chat (and how to handle the offensive stuff) whereas a child may not.

Of course, the entire second arguement is flawed in so much that a child should never be able to get into a gaming site anyway - but that's a completely different arguement, and PS are no different from any other poker site in that respect.

Just a thought.

Hmmm, I just clicked on the chip stack in PS (to try a different theme) and noticed that the "call moderator" button IS there IN A REAL MONEY GAME.

I don't know if it's just been added, but I rather think not as there have been no software updates in the past few days (so far as I am aware).

I guess this just goes to illustrate that before getting into a discussion on any given subject, it would be wise to do a bit of research beforehand!!!!

It could be because this thread was made nearly a month ago...
I of course did my research, but, when I looked to see if your OBVIOUSLY TRUE CAPS STATEMENT WAS ACTUALLY TRUE, the button WAS NOT and IS STILL NOT THERE. What are you looking at? A tourney table? Or just making things up now, are we?

Argue amongst yourselfs now. It seems people find it enjoyable. I didn't come back in here to do that. I just don't think blocking someone's chat is an option in this "discussion". It obviously bothered me. arty:arty:

Firstly, my commonts about the lack of research were directed at MYSELF, not you wsorbust - I apologise if I gave the wrong impression. What I really meant was that I had seen your comments about the lack of a "call moderator" option at real money and taken it at face value (and commented accordingly) without doing my own research - this is not something that I would do.

I am a little disappointed at the inference in your recent post that I have posted something that I know to be incorrect. I did begin to wonder if I was imagining things when I saw the "call moderator" button yesterday. I have therefore rechecked this morning, and can confirm that it IS there, and yes - it's on a real money cash game - see screen shot.

I am quite new to Poker Stars (perhaps 3 - 4 weeks). I can only assume that they are trialing the "call moderator" button for NEW downloads before rolling it out to all existing members should it prove successful - this is pretty standard practise in the IT industry.

Hope this satisfies all concerned.
