Applying SWOT to poker You're right. Businesses have been using SWOT since the 1960s. However, most companies use it for Strategic, not Tactical direction. i.e. They don't know how to apply SWOT for day-to-day operations. They'll do a SWOT analysis once and then they put their analysis in the drawer because they can't apply what they analyzed. Unfortunately, metrics you came up here might help you reflect on your game today, but don't really help you over time or measure your performance. I've been using an app for over a year called SWOT Poker (swotpoker.com) that helps you journal and log your key SWOT metrics for daily/session use. It's like Poker Journal, but on a much higher level, allowing you to track behavioral & environmental conditions which make you successful or unsuccessful. Consider: Strengths and Weaknesses are controllable (these are your Performance factors). Opportunities and Threats are somewhat uncontrollable, like tight players, stack sizes, experienced competitors, fish/donkeys @ table, etc (these are your Environment factors). If you had a winning session, did you play well or was your environment favorable? If you lost, was it a cooler or did you get outplayed? Tracking only cashflow is giving you half the info you need to improve. You have to track WHY you won or lost and learn from it. SWOT poker app allows you to track every session you play and rate yourself and your environment across ~20 metrics. Then use the reports to show performance data, not only in your skills, but also in your environment. I've been using it for quite some time and it not only helps me reinforce the fundamentals, but it helps me self-reflect on my session, and correlate Performance and Environment factors over time to wins and losses. Good luck
