Hey,

I hope I do not offend anyone by mentioning that there's a specialised poker torrent site for those of you looking for poker related video content: Enjoy!

A torrent is essentially a zip file. You use a torrent downloading client to download batches of files (like movies/albums/etc)

I'll try to be as correct as I can with the knowledge that I have (which is limited):

Torrents keep track of where "data" can be found. The data can be virtually anything - for example a video file like wsop 2002.

The torrent tracker hosts these torrent files, uploaded by members, and they keep track of who has what part of the data.

A seed = full data file
A leech = partial data file

You would need a torrent client like uTorrent (which is what I use) to be able to download torrents...

It really is a brilliant method for file-sharing online and puts the owner of the website at no risk seeing as how they do not host anything illegal (not that most poker torrents are), just a tracking file of a few byte :)

For a torrent site the community (uploaders/seeders/leechers) is everything - that's why I am spreading the word - I love the site and want it to improve and help others find their way there.

If you need help with torrents I'm sure you can post in their forums with any questions that you have. Torrent users are generally very helpful!

uTorrent is a bad program to download. From my understanding, and I could be wrong, there are government trackers in the newer versions. Personally I would use Azureus or some other torrent program. Again, I could be wrong but I've read this somewhere.

Hmm,

Do you have/can you find any links to any further information on that? I use uTorrent because Azureous used to slow down and eventually crash my PC. Also configuring uTorrent is so much simpler.

Why on earth would it have "government trackers" whatever those are? I am not even sure what that means but it sounds negative indeed! :)

If by government trackers you mean that it reports personal usage data back to the government (of USA?) then the only plausible explaination why it exists in the first place would be because the government created it? That would sound like an X-file type of conspiracy!

Further information on the subject would be greatly appreciated!

There are rumors going around that all releases of uTorrent after 1.6.1 are possibly sending information to anti-piracy groups. Do NOT use the BitTorrent client for this reason.

This is all I could find from the original place I read it from, which is another forum. I read it a while back and thought it said sending info to the gov't. I was wrong, but there's the info I could find. I guess googling it might find something.

Hmm,

I had a look at it. They dont actually say that the clients themselves report, but these "anti-piracy" organisations claim to connect some form of tracking/scrambling software to the torrent streams using and claims to be effective against i.e uTorrent,

I strongly doubt it will affect any of us.

Besides, you havent ever seen anyone get nailed for sharing Desperate Housewives have you? The only thing they seem to go after is Feature films & Music...

But thanks for the info!
