I'd wager that a good number of losing players will lose more money trying to clear their bonus than the bonus is worth.  Winning players deposit more money, do what they would do anyway...play and win...and clear their bonus in the process for more money.  So reload bonuses imo are more useful for a winning player than a losing one.

Yes if you want to take advantage of this you will have to deposit more of "your own money" as you put it, although the money in your stars account now is every bit as real as the money in your checking account last I looked.

I look at it this way... I just "loaned" my pokerstars account $600 yesterday to take advantage of the reload bonus.  Once I clear my bonus (and I should have made additional profit just from playing) I will withdraw the $600 back and voila.. I have a free $120!
