To elicit a call
I usually do so when I make a value bet. My logic is that I feel that showing one of my cards peaks my opponents' curiosity, which could prompt a losing call.

When out of position
I will also occasionally reveal a card when I am out of position in a heads-up pot if I feel that my in-position opponent will reveal one himself, which takes away some of the mystery of being the one out of position. After all, i'm supposed to lose the most as the one that is out of position, so for us both to reveal information, should only make my decisions easier, thus reducing his positional advantage.

To break the ice
In a game where weak players are trying hard or playing relatively decent, showing a card, particularly in a spot that is pretty safe, like ones that you know you can't win anyway and don't plan continue in, could lighten the mood at the table and advise your opponents that "It's ok to have some fun", while not costing you anything.

So what do you think? Is my logic correct? Am I simply just giving my hand away and costing myself bets because of it?
