Running bad or playing bad?

I just don't get it, I've been playing online poker for almost a year now and I have extreme periods where I'm winning and losing. When I started I was probably the most steady, I went from $60 to $1000 in a few months. Then I went from $1000 to $8000 in like 2 weeks. Then I went from $8000 to like $5000 in a few weeks. Now I'm slowly winning. I rarely play ring games and I usually play Sngs or MTTs. Is such big varience normal? Do you think I'm playing bad during these supposed "downswings" or are they just periods of awful luck?

you should record one of your sessions and see if someone one the forum would kindly review it for you. this can be done for a small fee i'm sure.
