That would pretty much tell ya how often luck is a factor. It might vary from person to person depending on how wide their opening range is.

Conservative players need less luck because they go into the pot with strong cards most of the time. Loose players need more luck and will experience more luck because they're not only playing with weaker cards but they're also in more pots.

I prefer to think of it as "Good fortune" rather than luck however. If a low percentage card hits your hand on the turn or river, your fortunate that it came. So that's good fortune....not luck.

The reason I don't like the word "Luck", is because it completely disregards any amount of skill that I may have applied earlier in the hand.

Let's say I 3-bet somebody and it persuades him to fold preflop. After the flop I hit some guy with a check raise and he lets his cards go. The last guy to act goes all in and I call. He has me beat, but I hit an 8% card on the river for the win.

If I didn't 3-bet the guy pre flop or check raise the other guy, their hands might have beat the 8% river card.

The word "Luck" disregards all of this and just sums it up into a convenient perspective...."Meh, you just got lucky."
