Generally speaking, I really like this question, and I am sure it is a thought that goes through every aspiring poker pro’s mind at some point. 
  
  Just My Opinion, being offered as a very recreational player of 15 years...so feel free to take it with a grain of salt, I will not be offended.

  I would never say it is impossible, but I believe it is just very improbable, for most of us.  Why?  The key obstacle is “stable”.  This means the amount we risk must be sufficiently small as to not put at risk our source of steady income (ie – our combination of bankroll and poker skills).
  
  Very hard to summarize at a high level but I will give it a shot… you will likely need the following for starters:

[*]·        A sufficient bankroll.  If you built this playing poker, you are off to a good start.  If you built it gradually over time, even better.  If you built it on one “Big Hit”, very nice, but still some sustainability questions.  If your bankroll is from some other means, you are fortunate, but you still will need the following.

[*]·        A mastery of the game.  I will define this as proven track record of being sufficiently profitable at the game, over a period of time, let’s say several years, after eliminating single biggest win.

[*]·        A mastery of bankroll management.  However, be aware this alone is not good enough.  If your poker skills are not sufficient to win in the long run, the best bankroll management in the world only delays the inevitable.

[*]·        Lots of studying.  This is both game results and new material (books, videos, CardsChat forum input, CardsChat educational resources, etc.).

  Addressing some other specifics in your post, h1seless, if $1,000 per month is what it takes to achieve an adequate “stable income”, that helps, but I am guessing that is not adequate for most of us.  Six months is likely not an adequate amount of time to develop a “mastery of the game”, unless you are extremely brilliant and a poker prodigy.  
  
  REDFLAGS: You have been playing for 5 years and nothing works.  This makes it even more unlikely that 6 months would be adequate.
