Straddle

In the cash games that have the straddle option, what is the advantage (if any), the straddle has if enabled? I have only seen this "straddle" option on this site only.

most live cash games will offer a straddle, and only a few websites (they don't want to pay the money to write it into their programs).

The advantage is getting the last action preflop with money already in the pot. Whoever straddles is the last to act preflop no matter who does it.

Most live houses will only allow a button or UTG straddle, some will allow in any position.

Another advantage of sorts is that the pot is bigger from the get go, and for those who like to gamble it up, it gives them an advantage of playing for higher stakes where others may be intimidated by the higher stakes. It punishes the 'scared money'.

If anything, the straddle just adds good action to any game. If you straddle with a great starting hand, you can try to steal the pot. If you straddle with crap, you can either try to steal, ... or you can lose the hand ... or you may just flop a monster. You never know, thats why its so fun !!

Gain position over other players

The advantage of straddling is that there is more money in the pot pre flop, and that the straddler is last to act before the flop. Also, it's just fun!

Straddle is ok as long as you dont go overboard with it. We play straddle in our home games where only UTG1 can straddle for the amount of 2BB.
