If you're all serious about this, you each need to read several poker books.  Not only will you learn a lot, but the books teach you the language of poker, so you can discuss it and deconstruct it better.

Also, you're going to learn more from better players, so it's good to seek outside help from better people.  There are plenty of people online willing to offer advice and help you out (Yeah, CardsChat!).
I mean, if you're going to get advice about a tricky hand, it's better to get advice from someone who's played hundreds of thousands of hands and is a consistent winner rather than a buddy who lacks that experience.

Good luck.  I think the group is a good idea.  Just remember that the group is a supplement to your education, and shouldn't be the primary means of education.
