Most of these pro poker players are degenarate gamblers. Read Vikki Coren's A love affair with poker. Its scary. Guys win 100k and dont walk out the casino with it. Often its craps, roulette, horses, blackjack. All those guys have their vices.

T.J. is a craps monster. Many times playing hands at the Horseshoe in Tunica I've passed him leaning over the craps table. For some, the walk to the poker room is just too long and all the other games suck them in. T.J. is a gambler in the official bonafide sense.

Just some insight from what I've seen with my own eyes.

they all go broke even the very best of them thats whats so funny all gamblers go broke read greenstien they didnt build them casinos by giving money away 90% of poker players lose money 5% break even the other 5 blow the money somewhere else thats why they are selling books and anything else they can would you want most of them near your kids i dont think so

So 100% of players don't make any money playing righttttt. What the hell does any of that have to do with wanting them near kids. Some people are just stupid.

I ran into TJ stumbling around the slots at the Rio when I was leaving to catch my flight out in '06. I was shocked he wasn't at the craps table.

Yeah, it's possible there could be a number of reasons this is available through that pawn shop. We may even find out someday. But this isn't a complete shocker.

Ive heard Ivey at a WPT event say he has to finish at least 2nd just to break even for the trip. Also heard Matusow say he lost his 1,000,000 first place prize money from the tournament of champions in the next 3 days. So yes they do have there vices.

He came from a time where you played poker purely for the money.

Doyle Brunson didnt even pick up some of the bracelets he won back in the day.

While he is probably in money trouble, I also think that him not caring about the bracelet is feasible.

Where do you fit in on the scale?
I think I'd keep my kids away from folks with a narrow-minded view on things.
I like your perception of why poker players put out poker books. So do ya figure Phil Gordon wrote his series of books cuz he was hurting for money? How about Dan Harrinton... same thing for him was it? What about Sklansky... no desire to share info. with others....
I've never personally met a writer who didn't have a passion for writing. I'm sure there's some.. ie. "poker for dummies".. "how to make $30K playing sng's online".. etc. BUT with the 50+ poker books I've read, I'd safely assume that with 90% of them, the writer's objective wasn't merely greed-based and all about the mighty dollar (&/or because they were hurting from being a gambler).

i have won lots of tropheys playing pool. when i first won them it was cool now i could care lees anbout a trophy just give me the money. i would imagine thats how he feels.

Why would someone challenge him for his braclet and the pawn it? Surely if he was challenged for his bracelet then the person who challenged him wanted the bracelet not the opportunity to pawn the bracelet.

I was thinking about that.

Cake may well get him to sign a contract specifying the penalties involved should he do so.

In effect he may become the custodian of cake pokers property.

Otherwise it could happen again.
