Sure, like when I'm late getting to the site and registering. If I'm going play a tourney, then I normally will have a six hour window just in case. Another 100, 500 or 1000 possible entries wont prevent from signing up.

Someone jumps in right before the cutoff and comes to the table where blinds are higher and people have played for an hour or so together. Like Bruce Willis character John Mclane says, "Welcome to the party pal!"

Well most times I'm not late to join a tourney. And people just wait to register on late registration, not because they got to the tourney late, but because they wanna be the ones that start out with an even 1500 stack after others have been playing already. That would prevent me to sign up, I don't like playing with a bunch of extra people.

They really aren't "extra" people. They paid the buy in too. I like late registration.

This has been a post with a lot of different views. There are a lot of sites where it is done differently. From no late, to only the first round or two. Some of the guaranteed tournaments are like 7-11, they seem like they never close. Got to shop where you feel comfortable.

i have had some luck in low stake games but it reall sucks when its higher blinds an d ialways seem to join right in front of the big bind or right on it and poof and the rest is history.my suggestion is on late reg. start as when the game does.

Well when I register for a tournament, I look at the number of players. I don't want alot of people in the tournament, I like them usually 500 or below. After late registration is over, its grown by 300 people, usually even more. And all those people that registered over late registration I don't want in there.

I played a turbo earlier today, 300 starting stacks, and late registration. I had a couple of good hands and tripled up pretty early, so I was able to bully the late regs, and it was actually pretty nice. So I now agree with this in turbos.

(btw JRP, dont want to derail the thread, but why that avatar?)

When I started playing poker online, I did find it quite disturbing to lose chips and then have a new player appear at the table with more chips than me. Couple this with the fact that it's more than possible to be eliminated ahead of someone who sits out the entire game paying the blinds but folding EVERY hand.

However, as my poker improved, so to did my state of mind regarding late entries. I now find that I can gather quite a few chips in the early stages of a tournament meaning that I now hold a distinct advantage over those who have entered late!! The hard part is holding on to the lead once I've got it!!

it is fair. If you dont register at the beginning, you dont get to see as many hands as other people, but if you do register at the beginning, you see more hands but have a chance of getting knocked out early. It is your choice, if you want to take the risk of registering early. My advice is to register at the beginning, but play tight.

What?? Show me a tourney where you can late reg. and sit down with 5bb??
Latest 'late reg.' I've seen gets you in at around Level6 which is always alot more than 10bb.

superturbos on FTP. you start with 10bb... one or two blind level jumps and it's 5.

I am starting to love the late registration. In fact, lately I've been sitting in MTTs right before the late registration ends.

I only do this when starting stack is 3K. After the late registration ends, blinds are at 50/100/10, giving me a stack of 30 BBs or an M of ~12. Average stack will be around 5-6K, so we're sitting ok here. Not great, but not too bad. Here, I'm play super aggressive, trying to steal and re-steal a lot, and looking for places to shove and double. If I do, I'm at an average stack and can work from there or if I don't I bust out. No biggie.

I especially think late registration is perfect for the 1R1A games. Stack starts at 3K + 3K(R) + 6K(A) = 12K stack. This is usually around average stack at this point and blinds are at 50/100/10, giving you 120BBs and an M of 50, plenty of time maneuver and build a stack from here. And you've avoid probably 1/4-1/2 the field.
