If it's a wife, you have to find balance!  Don't drop out of the tourney because you fear nagging.  Doing something out of fear is so bad and disrespectful.  Drop out because you made an obligation to your wife and you love and respect her enough to follow through with it and because you would prefer to keep your marriage spiced up with things like date night.

(Snow - your advice surprises me, not in a good way, lol.  If you screw up then the right thing to do (and to show you are not a selfish person) is to make a good apologetic gesture, like bringing her some flowers.)

*Question: If you had a date lined up - why even enter a tournament in the first place?  And please don't say because you didn't expect to do well!  No point ever entering if you don't expect to do well!
