Trapping opponents

What would you's out there say is the best time to trap someone into betting? I tend to lean towards post river betting so that I have a feel for their hand based on their previous checks/bets/raises. Whats your thoughts!?

For me it really depends on a lot of factors, most being my opponent, his style and if I think I can trap him and under what conditions. Super aggros are easier to do this on all streets, calling stations won't do it, you just have to get them to keep calling, and the others in between - it really depends.

I don't like the idea of "trapping"

I believe in the expresion " make them PAY to PLAY "

Thats how lesser experienced players with ' garbage ' hands

Something that I like to do: Assuming the person is a loose aggressive player, if I have the nuts on the flop or turn, and then on the river a potential draw card shows up, I'll make a value bet like 1/3 the pot or something to appear to be worried they hit their draw hoping to get them to raise me. Again, their table image plays a role. It's not something I always do.

Depends on if you are bluffing preflop or bluffing like you hit the board. If the board pairs or shows a straight or flush and I know I have a tight player and he freezes I'll go in for the kill.

It really depends on how you play the hand and how your opponent plays the hand. I prefer not to trap though as it usually just leads to some sickening beats.

I don't trap or slow playing anything. The more cards that come out, the better chance you have of being sucked out on. If I have a strong hand, you are going to pay a hefty price to see any more cards.

Trapping

I never start to trap unless I'm sitting on a set because it's way to easy for your oppent to catch his card! Make sure the board can not flush ...make a value bet just to see were you are against your oppenent...then bet the river strong...do not give him/her a chance to win...take the hand!

Up until about a year ago I used to be a "trap artist". I would trap even with 2 pair, usually successfully. The last 6 or so months though, I started to realize that even slow playing sets could cost me. Seems like there's a new, "looser playing" trend out there, people sucking out like crazy. So recently I have been betting, even my sets, and always seem to have at least 1 caller until the river....and I usually win - even more than if I were to trap.

I will rarely trap opponents anymore. I mean I better have the absolute nuts with no draws on board to really play week. It seems like out of 10 hands if you try to trap someone, they will get you most of the time, and it seems people who trap are usually commited to there hand, and will call anything therefore you could possibly lose a big pot instead of gaining an average size pot.

Pretty much this, except that I love to trap. Sometimes I have to because (I think) I usually have a tight table image, and if I raise they all fold. Again, it depends on the strength of my hand. If I flop a boat, or even the nut flush (which can still be risky if the board pairs), I tend to check. When I find myself in a looser rhythm with a loose-ish table, standard raise. I play a lot of limit and PL. In limit, there is virtually no trapping. You've got to build that pot.

the trap

Trapping is an important part of the game. If you trap when you don't have the nuts then you need to be able to fold to a lively board at times.If you are not capable of doing this then only trap with the nuts.
