Vintage Card/Chip Set circa 1900

I found inside a very old attaché case a poker card/poker chip set circa 1900. It is self-contained in a small carrying case. The cards are very early Bicycle cards and the chips are miniature and fit into a chip holder that slides into a slot below the cards. As far as I can tell it is one-of-a-kind in that I cannot find anything like it anywhere on the Web.

It is really slick. I can picture an old riverboat gambler carrying this or possibly a soldier in WWI.

Anyone ever seen one of these or know of anyone who might have one? I'd like to know what its worth. It is a real piece of poker history

Hey Dan,

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. You did great on the posting of the pictures.
I screw up all the time posting them. I love messing around with the Paint program on my computer.

That is really something special. I think you should try and find out the value. Might be something worth selling depending on your attachment to it.

The cards pictured are not the ones that belong with the box pictured (808s vs 119s).

Awesome score!! Thanks for sharing. May I ask where you "found" it? As I lost mine last week, LOL. But seriously, how did you come across it? I would have thought maybe an antique/vintage store/boutique, but then if that was the case, I'm sure they would have gave you some background info on it.. I agree that it is probably a rare piece, and could possibly be of value. I'm also interested in how the inside of the drawer portion is constructed. Are the dividers that separate the chips stacks affixed to the drawer? Or do the divers look to be an after thought? It could possibly be a vintage business card holder that has been converted into a traveling poker set.

well just to throw it out there id be willing to pay 150-250 probably so keep me in mind such a cool find and if you find the value and I'm way under i apologize lol have no idea the value just what i would pay because i really think its neat and I'm a collector (of everything) HAHA

Seems to me this is US8c snowflake, introduced in 1904 and as WVH mentioned not in the original box.

Have to admit I couldn't find much more about it and have no clue about any value.

Found a couple of decks of cards myself a few years ago. Found them in a house I bought in New England, they were huge and had no numbers. Cash got the better of me saving them, they were much more valuable to someone else. hahaha

It's really nice and is really in the history of poker but I don't think its monetary value is high enough to sell it, but if I were u I would be proud to have such stuff in my house.
