Some of my friends partners "hated" poker because they didn't want them gambling at all. They see it as a degenerative problem that leads to addiction, debt and has a devasting affect on their lives. Some people obviously can fall into this trap, but my friends that played once a month for £10 a time? Not likely to become a degenerative gambler. I think having an open and honest discussion about poker/gambling is really important. If having a lads poker night once a month is part of your social circle, she should respect that, but you should also respect her fears and do your best to allay them.

Others don't like the fact that their boyfriend/husband would rather go to the casino to play a tournament than go out for drinks with friends, or clock a few hours online instead of watching a movie together. For me, this was a problem for a while; because at first I did not tell my girlfriend I played poker, so when I did, she was a bit put out, because, from her perspective, I suddenly want to play poker instead of spending time with her. I would strongly recommend that when you get into a new relationship, you make it clear that you play poker (or any hobbies) that mean you can't spend every day with them, rather than surprising them a few months down the line.
